Files.fm Action Log Redesigned for Faster, Clearer Activity Tracking

On August 27, 2026, Files.fm completed a major rework of the Action Log and visitor-statistics experience. The update focuses on clearer data, faster reporting, and a more consistent interface for Business users who need to understand activity across cloud files, shared content, and organization accounts.

Why an activity log matters

Files.fm is used for much more than transferring files. Teams store working documents, collaborate through shared folders, collect uploads, manage access, and use the platform across the web, WebDAV, mobile applications, and APIs. As those workflows grow, it becomes important to answer practical questions: What happened? Who performed the action? Which file, folder, share, or account was involved? When did it occur, and through which channel?

The Action Log provides that operational history. Depending on account configuration and user permissions, it can help authorized users review file and folder activity, downloads, deletions and restorations, sharing changes, upload-form submissions, and account or security events. This supports day-to-day administration, troubleshooting, access reviews, and investigation when an unexpected change needs context.

What is new

The redesigned account-activity area includes:

• a new overview dashboard showing recent activity totals, active users, downloads, content changes, deletion and restoration events, sharing changes, and account or security events;
• a unified timeline combining file, sharing, and user-account events in chronological order;
• filters for date, category, action, user, item, source, and other available event details;
• event drill-down with contextual information and direct links to relevant files or folders where available;
• a clearer separation between historical events and current access, including active sharing; and
• a redesigned visitor-statistics overview covering views, downloads, unique visitors, audience trends, recent visits, and popular content.

The overview starts with the latest six hours, while additional periods and detailed reports make it possible to move from a quick health check to a more focused investigation. Existing detailed reports and Excel export workflows remain available for users who need deeper analysis or offline reporting.

Faster and easier to use

Performance was an important part of the rework. Reporting queries were optimized with targeted indexes, cached summaries, and incremental timeline loading. These changes reduce the work required to open large activity histories while keeping recent information convenient to access.

The interface now uses consistent navigation, tables, filters, loading indicators, and empty or error states across activity and statistics pages. It also adapts to smaller screens, making account activity easier to review when working away from a desktop.

Visibility continues to follow Files.fm permissions. Users see activity relevant to their own access, while authorized organization administrators and users with appropriate roles can review a wider organizational scope. The redesigned experience is being introduced as part of the Files.fm Business account capabilities.
