Evisu was founded in 1991 in Osaka, Japan, by Hidehiko Yamane, a passionate designer and vintage denim collector. Yamane’s vision was simple yet ambitious: to revive traditional Japanese denim-making techniques that had been lost to time and fast fashion.

Inspired by the Japanese god of prosperity, Ebisu (from which the brand takes its name), Yamane began producing jeans in small batches using old-fashioned shuttle looms and hand-painted designs.
